Do you have a reading list for this subject?
We encourage pupils to read “around” the subject by reading varied articles on historical issues, eras and ideas. A wide array of reading material is tweeted on the History Department’s twitter feed which is @FGCS_History.
How can I help my child to excel in this subject?
Visit places of historical interest including museums, art galleries, exhibitions
Encourage your child to read/watch the news regularly to keep abreast of contemporary issues which reinforce historical concepts
Discuss what your child is learning in lessons and ask them to explain their thoughts/ideas on the topic and check homework assignments on the school’s DPR
Encourage your child to conduct independent research into the topic being studied in lessons

Do you offer any interventions or clubs my child can attend?
To support pupils in their preparation for their GCSE examinations, we offer numerous intervention sessions for pupils including weekly Exam Skills sessions after school, regular Saturday classes taking place between 9am-12pm and other before-school and lunchtime intervention sessions.
The History department organises educational visits to give pupils the opportunity to consolidate their learning and deepen their passion for the subject. Pupils have visited the Museum of London, the Tower of London, Kelvedon Hatch Nuclear Bunker and the First World War battlefields at Ypres, Belgium.
We also offer a History Club open to pupils in years 7 - 8.
Are there any important dates for me to be aware of in your subject
Information will be provided of dates for interim assessments, internal and external examinations in advance.
How will my child be assessed at the end of the course?
For GCSE pupils are assessed by 100% examination;
Paper 1 Crime and Punishment 30%
Paper 2 Henry VIII and Superpower Relations 40%
Paper 3 USA 30%
