History trip to WWI battlefields in Ypres
The History Department organised a visit to the WWI battlefields in Ypres, Belgium for Year 8 pupils recently. The visit was designed to give pupils the opportunity to consolidate their learning on the First World War, which they have been studying this term. As part of the visit pupils had the opportunity to visit the In Flanders Fields Museum and Passchendaele Museum, alongside the Tyne Cot British Cemetery and Langemark German Cemetery. The visit allowed pupils to further develop their understanding of the First World War and trench warfare. Highlights of the visit for the pupils included being able to walk through replica trenches at the Passchendaele Museum, and also visiting the chocolate shop in Ypres town centre!
