Hyacinth Girl
MAS Drama students from Forest Gate took their performance of The Hyacinth Girl to the Arthur Cotterell Theatre as part of the International Youth Arts Festival. The piece, based on TS Eliott’s The Waste Land, took the story of two of the characters from the poem, the Hyacinth Girl and Madame Sosostris, and set it to dance, movement and new text. Malachi Castro provided a live violin soundtrack to his own arrangements of Kurt Weill and Marianne Faithfull. The performance showed the diversity of Forest Gate students in the arts and drew on ballet (Maya Miller), music (Malachi Castro) and theatre arts (Milly Harper, Olivia Fairhurst-Trew and Evelyn Weeden) to present a most accomplished piece of performance art.
